For The TruthWe are burdened for widespread biblical illiteracy, theological ignorance, and a watered-down gospel among American Evangelicals. “But the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” —2 Timothy 4:3-4 For The Lukewarm ChurchWe are burdened for the prevailing lukewarm and worldly condition of the Evangelical Church in America. “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. … So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot or cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked.”—Revelation 3:15-17 We are burdened for the lack of fervent prayer, ongoing communion with the Lord, and the absence of the Holy Spirit and His power in the lives of Christians and churches throughout America. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine [fellowship] with him, and he with Me.” —Revelation 3:20 For Genuine ChristianityWe are burdened for the many Evangelical Christians who profess Christ as their Savior but don’t want Him to govern their lives as Lord. “So they said, ‘Believe on the LORD Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” —Acts 16:31 We are burdened for the many professing Christians who blend their profession of faith with pursuit of self-fulfillment and the American dream. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, … lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying its power.” —2 Timothy 3:1, 2, 4, 5 We are burdened for the many professing Christians deceived by worldly televangelists and the false gospel of health, wealth and prosperity. “For many of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their God is their belly, and they glory in their shame—who set their minds on earthly things.” —Philippians 3:17-19 We are burdened for the many of professing Christians in America who believe they are saved but continue to live in sin. “No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him—deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known him [recognized, perceived, or understands Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous.” —1 John 3:6-7 Amplified We are burdened for the large number of professing Christians in America who surely fall into the frightening category that Jesus warned of in Matthew 7:21: “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” For True DiscipleshipWe are burdened for the majority of American Christians who profess Christ but don’t follow Him. “Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.” —1 John 2:6 We are burdened for church growth trends that emphasize reaching the un-churched at the expense of making true disciples. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations … teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” —Matthew 28:19-20 For Suffering Christians Throughout The WorldWe are burdened to refresh and encourage true followers of Christ who suffer, are tried or are persecuted, but remain faithful upon the narrow and difficult path that leads to life. “Then the righteous will answer him saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”—Matthew 25:36-40 |
